Retrieved Jan 14 2019 from NEW ORLEANS-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Aug. 6, 1996-At SIGGRAPH '96 today, Kinetix(TM), the multimedia business unit of Autodesk(R), Inc. (NSDQ:ADSK), announced that its enhanced version of 3D Studio MAX(TM) is now available for systems running Microsoft(R) Windows 95(R). The same version of 3D Studio MAX Release 1.1 operates without modification on both Windows NT and Windows 95 platforms, and widens Kinetix's access to such cost-sensitive markets as education. The new release is available free to registered 3D Studio MAX users. By making 3D Studio MAX - a native Windows(R) application originally architected for Microsoft Windows NT(R) Workstation - available for use on Windows 95 systems, Kinetix will introduce its award-winning 3D modeling and animation software to millions more animators, designers, engineers and students.
This new capability allows current 3D Studio MAX users to take their work on the road with laptop PCs running Windows 95, or to transfer projects and files between high-performance Windows NT systems and affordable Windows 95 PCs and laptops. 'The Kinetix mission is to bring professional 3D graphics tools to the masses,' said Larry Crume, Autodesk vice president and general manager of Kinetix. 'By ensuring that 3D Studio MAX performs reliably on the Windows 95 platform, we have taken an enormous step toward realizing our vision.' 'I am excited that Kinetix is offering 3D Studio MAX Release 1.1 for Windows 95 and Pentium(R) processor-based systems, thereby making the tool more accessible to content developers and students,' said Ron Whittier, senior vice president and general manager of the Content Group, Intel Corporation.
New Windows vizualization and animation tool from Discreet (Kinetix). Based on 3D Studio MAX, targeted on CAD (AEC, MCAD) users. Free plug-ins (Drag&Drop, Sun.), reads R13 and R14 DWGs. 'It validates our belief that the underlying technology of top-tier authoring tools, such as 3D Studio MAX running on Pentium Pro processor-based workstations, are scalable down to volume platforms. High-end developers benefit from the multi-threaded, multi-processor capabilities of the Pentium Pro processors, while smaller production facilities and schools benefit from the ubiquity and affordability of volume PCs.' A single 3D Studio MAX license allows registered users to model, design and animate on either a Windows NT or Windows 95 platform.
The new software also includes enhancements to network rendering capabilities. As a result, a large rendering project can be distributed to thousands of PCs and servers running Windows NT and Windows 95 - or hundreds of projects can be rendered simultaneously, and project managers can reprioritize rendering jobs as often as necessary. Using 3D Studio MAX Release 1.1, artists and animators can even render large projects across corporate Intranets. 3D Studio MAX Release 1.1 will be shipped free of charge to all registered 3D Studio MAX users.
New copies of 3D Studio MAX are U.S. List priced at $3,495 for a single license. Current 3D Studio(R) customers can migrate to 3D Studio MAX for $2,500. CONTACT: Catapult Partners Carl Furry, 415/344-6193 [email protected].
